About UR2PhD:
The UR2PhD Program is an initiative run by the Computing Research Association (CRA) that intends to increase the number of students pursuing doctoral study in CISE programs.
Funding and Eligibility:
This application is for students who are applying for funding to support a research experience for undergraduates (REU). Funding is limited to students who have successfully completed one of the following:
- UR2PhD Undergraduate Research Training Course,
- UR2PhD Pre-Research Experience Course,
- UCSD Early Research Scholars Program
All participants who apply for and receive funding must agree to abide by CRA's Code of Conduct (https://cra.org/code-of-conduct).
NOTE: While the UR2PhD program is open to all students at North American institutions of higher education, funding is limited. Priority for financial support is given to domestic students (citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its territories, Canada, and Mexico), so funding opportunities for non-domestic students are especially limited.
UR2PhD can support a maximum of 5 students per insitution.
Application Expectations:
Using AI to draft responses to application questions is not allowed. Please note that use of large language models (LLMs) to generate, edit, or revise responses to any of the application questions will disqualify your application. Responses must reflect the personal experience and knowledge of the applicant.
Timeline:
Applications for Summer 2026 REUs will be accepted through February 28, 2026. We plan to begin reviewing applications in early March and begin making funding decisions on or around March 16, 2026. Please do not contact us prior to this date seeking a funding decision about your application.
