This supplemental funding is limited to graduate students who have successfully completed the UR2PhD graduate student mentor training course and will continue to mentor undergraduate students involved in the UR2PhD program.
Goal: Provide a small honorarium for graduate students who continue to mentor their existing undergraduate research mentees and/or begin to mentor new undergraduate student researchers.
Application Timeline / Response:
All submissions must be received BEFORE the deadline for that term - NO EXCEPTIONS.
For the spring, mentors should apply for funding no later than Saturday, March 1, 2025 at 11:59pm ET.
For the summer, mentors should apply for funding no later than Sunday, June 1, 2025 at 11:59pm ET.
For the fall, mentors should apply for funding no later than Wednesday, October 1, 2025 at 11:59pm ET.
All milestones must be completed by November 30, 2025 at 11:59pm ET. Payments to students who were approved for funding and successfully completed the milestone will be paid directly to students in December of 2025.
Milestones: All applicants who are granted a supplemental award for continuing to mentor undergraduates will be required to submit at least two milestones to have their stipend(s) disbursed. This includes a poster and a final reflection. Graduate students will also be expected to complete an Independent Contractor's Agreement, and make updates to their W-9/W-8BEN or direct deposit forms, as needed.
Stipends: Students are eligible for a maximum of $250 per year. All students who are selected for the award and complete their milestones by the deadline will have their stipends processed in December.
NOTE: While the UR2PhD program is open to all students at North American institutions of higher education, funding is limited. Priority for financial support is given to domestic students (citizens or permanent residents of the United States or its territories, Canada, and Mexico), so funding opportunities for non-domestic students are especially limited.
